Baba Siddique Maharashtra Ex Minister Shot Dead Inside Son’s office in Mumbai at around 9:30 p.m. today. The three times’ congress party MLA from Bandra West constituency was rushed to Lilavati hospital after being shot at a close range where during treatment he was pronounced dead. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde informed media that, “Ex Minister Baba Siddique succumbed to a deadly attack. This is a very unfortunate and sad incident”. Quoting a brief from Mumbai Police Commissioner Bhansalkar he said, “Two accused have been arrested one accused is at large. The two arrested accused hails from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Police teams and the crime branch team are trying to nab the third and will soon arrest him.”
Maharashtra Home Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, super stars Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt immediately rushed to Lilavati hospital. At around 9:30 p.m. Baba Ziyauddin Siddique left his son Zeeshan’s office and sat in his car, suddenly 3 to 4 youths started firing. Out of 3 gun shots one hit his chest which, perhaps proved to be fatal. It is reported that a 9 mm pistol is recovered from assailants. Police is also investigating Lawrence Bishnoi gang’s involvement in this high profile murder. Additional CP Paramjit Singh Dahiya said, “Around 9:30 p.m. this incident happened in Nirmal Nagar…. Police have arrested two accused. Crime Branch Mumbai is investigating the entire matter”.
Baba Siddique resigns from Congress after 48 years long association
Baba Siddique sensationalized Maharashtra politics when he resigned from primary membership of congress party with whom he spent nearly 5 decades. He joined hands with Ajit Pawar who formed a new faction of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) after deserting his uncle Sharad Pawar.

In a brief message the party chief and Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar, called the assassination of his colleague Baba Siddique to be very unfortunate, condemnable and painful. Strongly condemning this cowardly attack Ajit Pawar said, “The incident will be thoroughly investigated and strict action will be taken against the attackers. The mastermind behind the attack will also be traced. With the demise of Baba Siddiqui, we have lost a good leader who fought for the minority brothers and strived for pan-religious harmony. His death is a big loss for NCP. I share in the grief of Zeeshan Siddiqui, Siddiqui family and their workers.” Ajit Pawar cancelled his tomorrow’s scheduled programs.
Death Threat just 15 days ago, Govt. provides ‘Y’ category security
Just 15 days ago Baba Siddique received death threats hence, was provided with a ‘Y’ category security. A ‘Y’ category security includes 8-11 personnel, 1-2 commandos, and 2 personal security officers. It is reported that five teams of the police have been assigned with the responsibility of investigating and nabbing the puppets and their masterminds behind this crime.
Political Career of Baba Siddique
Born on 13th September 1958, in Patna, Bihar, Baba Siddique was associated with congress for 48 years. He joined NCP-Ajit Pawar faction before parliament elections 2024. As a student he participated in various movements led by the National Students Union of India (NSUI). He joined the Indian National Congress in 1977. In 1980, he was elected as General Secretary of the Bandra Youth Congress. In 1982, he was elected as President of the Youth Congress. In 1988, he was elected as President of the Mumbai Youth Congress. Twice he was elected as Municipal Corporator in the year 1992 and 1997. In the year 1999, he won the Maharashtra Assembly elections and became MLA from the Bandra West Assembly constituency. He recorded victory in three (1999, 2004 and 2009) consecutive elections of the assembly. He also served as Minister of State for Food & Civil Supplies, Labour, FDA and Consumer Protection (2004 – 2008). During the period 2000 to 2004, he also worked as Chairman, MHADA Mumbai Board.
Baba Siddique’s Bollywood connection
Baba Siddique was widely known for his lavish ‘Iftar’ parties which alongwith high profile politicians was also attended by a large number of top Bollywood celebrities. One of his such party became historic when he cemented ties between long-time rivals Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan.
NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar demands resignation from Devendra Fadnavis
Expressing concern over this high profile assassination under ‘Y’ category security cover the NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar, on his official ‘X’ account wrote, “The state’s collapsed law and order situation is a cause for concern. The shooting of former state minister Baba Siddiqui in Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, is regrettable. If the Home Minister and the rulers are going to push the cart of the state so mildly, it can be an alarm bell for the common people. There is a need not only to investigate this, but also to accept the responsibility and step down from the position of the rulers. A heartfelt tribute to Baba Siddiqui. Condolences to his family.”
Community’s huge loss – Nawab Malik
Talking to media Nawab Malik, NCP senior leader and MLA from the Anushakti Nagar constituency (Mumbai) said, “Baba Siddique was an old time friend, we started working together with the Youth Congress. His demise is a huge loss of the entire community. The NCP has also lost one of its big leaders”. He further expressed hope that the culprits will soon be brought to books.
