CM Devendra Fadnavis Orders Probe into Alleged ₹1,800 Crore Land Deal Linked to Parth Pawar

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed officials to initiate a thorough inquiry into alleged irregularities surrounding a high-value land transaction involving Parth Pawar, son of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The controversy has sent ripples through the state’s political corridors, with opposition parties demanding transparency and accountability in what they describe as a massive undervaluation of public property.

Alleged Irregularities in the Land Deal

According to initial findings, a company associated with Parth Pawar — Amidia Holdings LLP — reportedly purchased a parcel of land in Pune for about ₹ 300 crore, despite the property’s estimated market value being nearly ₹ 1,800 crore.
Officials have also flagged an unusually low stamp duty of just ₹ 500 on the transaction, which has raised serious questions about whether mandatory valuation procedures and revenue norms were bypassed.

Reports further suggest that the deal was processed and completed within a period of 27 days, a timeline many experts consider highly unusual for such a large-scale property transaction. The plot in question, measuring roughly 40 acres, is believed to include areas that fall under government-regulated land norms — another factor that has intensified scrutiny.

Fadnavis Orders Immediate Action

Speaking to the media in Pune, CM Fadnavis emphasized that his administration would maintain a zero-tolerance approach toward corruption or misuse of government systems. He confirmed that he has instructed the Revenue Department and the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) to submit complete documentation of the deal.

In a stern statement he said, “Our government stands by transparency and fairness. It doesn’t matter who is involved — if any wrongdoing is found, strict action will follow,”

The Chief Minister also reassured that his directive was not politically motivated, despite the involvement of a coalition partner’s family member, adding that his administration would handle the matter strictly within the legal framework.

Officials Suspended; Probe Committee Set Up

Following Fadnavis’s order, the Pune Tehsildar who oversaw the registration of the land has been suspended, along with the Deputy Sub-Registrar responsible for the transaction area. Both officials are under investigation for possible procedural lapses.

Senior bureaucrat Vikas Kharge, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue), has been tasked with overseeing the probe. The inquiry will review whether the land’s value was deliberately under-reported and if there was any misuse of government concessions during registration.

Parth Pawar’s Response and Political Fallout

Parth Pawar has denied any illegal conduct, asserting that the deal was completed transparently and in accordance with legal procedures. However, the allegations have triggered intense political reactions, particularly from opposition parties, who have accused the ruling coalition of shielding influential figures.

Political observers note that the controversy arrives at a sensitive moment for Maharashtra’s ruling alliance. The involvement of Ajit Pawar’s son has not only complicated intra-coalition dynamics but also revived public debate over how land transactions are monitored and evaluated in the state.

The allegations surrounding Parth Pawar’s land deal have put the Maharashtra government in a tight spot. The allegations, if proven, could dent the public image of Ajit Pawar and his party which is already under the spotlight for previous inquiries into cooperative bank and infrastructure dealings.

This case could lead to a wider review of land-valuation procedures, stamp-duty regulations, and fast-track approval mechanisms within Maharashtra’s property registration system.

The state’s investigation team will now scrutinize official documents, financial records, and valuation certificates associated with the transaction. Both suspended officers are expected to be questioned to determine whether due diligence was intentionally skipped.

If any irregularities are proven, the government may pursue criminal charges or administrative penalties under the Maharashtra Land Revenue and Registration Acts. The opposition, meanwhile, has called for a judicial inquiry and public disclosure of all records linked to the deal.
