Heavy rains in Mumbai – All schools, colleges to remain closed tomorrow i.e. 26th September 2024, Thursday, declared the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on it official account on ‘X’.  Mr. Bhushan Gagrani, BMC Commissioner stayed back in the office late night and was reviewing the rain situation in the city, from the control room of the BMC.

After heavy rains in Mumbai, railway tracks were the first to get affected due to clogged water.  After the railway tracks at Kurla, Bhandup and Vikroli stations were submerged the trains started getting delayed.  Initially several trains were delayed by an hour.    Within no time the Churchgate railway station got over crowded as announcements regarding train cancellations on western line started.  Commuters were stranded at railway stations and facing long delays due to heavy rains.

Traffic on roads were the worst affected due to heavily flooded and clogged roads in several parts of Mumbai.

Flight operations badly affected – Several flights diverted, cancelled

Flight operations was badly affected at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport due to heavy rains.  An Indigo Airlines flight had to abort landing at the last moment and it was diverted to Ahmedabad.  Indigo on its ‘X’ account posted, “It’s raining in #Mumbai & flight schedules are impacted due to weather conditions and air traffic congestion.  If you or your loved ones are travelling, you may keep a tab on the flight status and allow ample travel time to the airport”.  SpiceJet shared on ‘X’, “Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected.  Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via bit.ly/2tG9xBx.  Similar messages updating and advising passengers to keep a track of the situation and alerts were posted by almost all airlines.

‘Mumbaikars’ stay home, warns BMC

The official handle of BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), posted, “The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai, till tomorrow morning 8.30 am”.  The message further conveyed, “In view of this, all schools and colleges in Mumbai have been declared a holiday for tomorrow Thursday, 26 September 2024, in consideration of the safety of students”.  Through this message the BMC urged ‘Mumbaikars to step out of homes only if required’.  Parents and guardians are also advised to monitor and keep track of announcements related to weather alerts and exercise caution.
