Srinagar, Sep 30: The Jammu and Kashmir State Election Commission has seized Rs 130 crore and suspended 23 government officials for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the assembly polls. Enforcement agencies have been actively working to ensure adherence to election guidelines. According to the commission, 20 employees were transferred to different tehsils and districts after complaints of favoring a political party surfaced. Additionally, six contractual and ad hoc employees were disengaged due to their involvement in MCC violations.
In terms of monetary seizures, Rs 130 crore has been confiscated by various enforcement agencies, with the Police Department seizing Rs 107.50 crore. The Central Goods and Services Tax Department followed with Rs 9.88 crore, the State Goods and Services Tax Department with Rs 8.03 crore, the Narcotics Control Bureau with Rs 2.06 crore, the Income Tax Department with Rs 87 lakh, and the State Excise Department with Rs 50 lakh. Chief Electoral Officer PK Pole revealed that 7,088 permissions have been granted for campaign activities, including rallies, processions, and the use of vehicles and promotional materials. Of the 1,263 MCC violations reported, 600 cases have been resolved after investigations and necessary action.
